Refer a Student to Accessibility Services

When addressing concerns or referring a student for support, it's crucial to ensure these discussions are happening privately, away from the student's peers, to respect their privacy and confidentiality. Approach the conversation from a place of concern for the student's well-being and academic success, emphasizing support rather than implying something is "wrong" or needs to be "fixed." Below are guidelines on how to refer a student for support through SAIT's Early Alert system, ensuring they receive the appropriate resources and assistance. If you need further guidance or support in navigating these situations, please don't hesitate to reach out to accessibility.services@sait.ca to speak with an advisor. We're here to assist faculty in supporting students effectively.

How to refer a student:

  • Obtain the student's consent to email accessibility.services@sait.ca and cc the student to facilitate scheduling an appointment.
  • Accompany the student to MC221 and speak with reception to arrange an appointment with an Accessibility Advisor.
  • Utilize SAIT's Early Alert system, which allows instructors to connect students to the right support resources before minor challenges escalate into major struggles.

If you still feel unsure or require additional support, please contact accessibility.services@sait.ca to speak with an advisor. We are committed to assisting faculty in navigating these situations and ensuring students receive the support they need to succeed.
