Why Accommodate?

  • A common myth is that providing a student with accommodations gives them an academic advantage over other students. That is not the case.
  • An accommodation reduces or removes barriers created by the environment and enables an individual to access the same opportunities as other students in their program.
  • The goal is to ensure an equitable model of education
  • We also have a legal duty to take reasonable steps to accommodate a student's individual needs to the point of undue hardship
  • SAIT policy also dictates that we must take reasonable steps to accommodate students: SAIT Duty to Accommodate Policy: AC.3.16.1
