Why Accommodate?
- A common myth is that providing a student with accommodations gives them an academic advantage over other students. That is not the case.
- An accommodation reduces or removes barriers created by the environment and enables an individual to access the same opportunities as other students in their program.
- The goal is to ensure an equitable model of education
- We also have a legal duty to take reasonable steps to accommodate a student's individual needs to the point of undue hardship.
- SAIT policy also dictates that we must take reasonable steps to accommodate students: SAIT Duty to Accommodate Policy: AC.3.16.1
