As Accessibility Advisors, we rely on faculty and academic chairs to outline the essential requirements of courses and programs. From there, we set reasonable accommodations to reduce or eliminate barriers for our students.
The accommodation also does not need to be perfect or exactly as requested. However, it must be reasonable. This is where the role of the Accessibility Advisor is so important. Through active discussion between the student, the Accessibility Advisor and the Academic Chair/faculty member, you can create a reasonable accommodation that can work for the student and meet the academic integrity requirements of the program.
The accommodation cannot influence the essential requirements or academic integrity of a course or program.
