Here are some important guidelines for communicating with your student regarding accommodations and disabilities:
- Discuss the Accommodation Memo with your student so you can understand how to support the student best
- A student’s disability is private information protected under FOIP and Human Rights Legislation. Any discussions with a student regarding an Accommodation Memo should be done privately, and not in front of a class or their peers
- Accommodations for a student should not be discussed with an instructor/staff member that is not involved in their accommodations
- Instructors cannot ask a student what their diagnosis is
- Reach out to an Accessibility Advisor if there are any concerns
