Medical Withdrawal, Leave of Absence and Deferrals Processes

To apply for a medically related leave/withdrawal, students must start by having a conversation with an Accessibility Advisor. Medical documentation will be required.

                                                                 

 

Medically withdrawing from one/some classes and remaining in others: 

  • If it is prior to the add/drop date please contact your instructor and program advisor 
  • If it is past the add/drop date please have your doctor complete this form Medical Documentation and bring it to your appointment with an Accessibility Advisor.  
  • Set up an appointment by emailing accessibility@sait.ca  

 Medically withdrawing or a Leave of Absence from the program either long term or permanently: 

  • If you have already started classes and now need to leave due to medical reasons, please have your doctor complete this form: Medical Documentation

  • If you intend to return your spot will be held for a maximum of one year, unless: 
  • You are in your 1st semester as a Domestic student, then you will be permanently withdrawn and need to reapply in order to return 
  • If you intend to return your spot will be held for a maximum of one year, unlessYou are in your 1st semester, then you will be permanently withdrawn and need to reapply in order to return 
  • Once you have your form completed by your doctor, complete this online request: OTR - Form - Leave of Absence/Withdraw (sait.ca) 
  • Your request will be reviewed by Accessibility Services and if approved, you will be withdrawn by The Office of the Registrar 
  • If you have questions about your withdrawal, please contact: accessibility@sait.ca  

                                                                                                        

  • If you have not yet started classes and now need to take a medical leave, then you will need to complete this form 
  • Next you will need to submit the form to this online request: Admission Deferral Request (sait.ca) 
  • Your request will be reviewed by Accessibility Services and if approved, you will be withdrawn by The Office of the Registrar 
  • If approved, your spot will be held for a maximum of one year, unless: You are in your 1st semester as a Domestic student, then you will be permanently withdrawn and need to reapply in order to return 
  • You are in your 1st or 2nd semester as an International student and if you intend to return your spot will be held for a maximum of one year, unless you are in the first semester of your first year                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

Refunds from a medical withdraw or deferral: 

  • Refunds are determined by The Office of the Registrar (OTR) on a case-by-case basis and can take 6-8 weeks to process
