The pandemic forced SAIT to move to the virtual world of teaching. While it presented many challenges, it opened many UDL (Universal Design for Learning) opportunities that are not only useful for students with disabilities but for all students.
Some ideas for accommodating virtually that work for all students:
- Record lectures
- Provide students with access to instructor notes
- Use alternate forms of assessment
- Open assessments for longer periods enable students to write at varying times according to their schedules
- Enable students to communicate in different ways (i.e. chat functions)
- Foster collaboration and community
- Use both visuals and text
- Encourage feedback in multiple ways
