Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the Library doing in response to COVID-19 for Fall 2021?

In addition to SAIT's policy on requiring the use of masks on campus, we have implemented several measures to facilitate social distancing and to allow for a safe return to our space:

  • Created some additional bookable seats and spaces
  • Blocked study spaces to create "socially distanced" areas in the Library
    • *NEW* The Library is required to adhere to Government of Alberta restrictions and has had to apply this to the entire Library instead of just a few areas. We apologize for the inconvenience.
  • Installed plexiglass at the Information Desk
  • Made cleaning supplies available upon request

As always, help is available at a distance. You can book an in-person or virtual appointment with your liaison or chat with us during operating hours.

Q. Can I eat and drink in the Library?

You cannot eat in the Library - this is a temporary measure to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. You can still bring drinks into the Library as long as they are in a secure container. You may remove your mask to take a drink, but must promptly put your mask back on.

Q. Do I have to wear a mask in the Library?

You must wear a mask at all times when in the Library. The only exceptions to this rule are:

Q. My books/items are past due. Will I collect fines?

Items in our general circulating collection will not accumulate fines for students/staff/faculty unless requested by another patron. If this happens, you will receive a recall notice and will have to return the item within 7 days or it will start to accumulate fines.

Most other items, including high demand items such as textbooks, laptops, phone chargers, etc. will start to accumulate fines if not returned on time.

Q. How do I print at the Library?

You need to add money to your SAIT eCard to print in the Library.You can print using any of our computers or by adding our printers to your own laptop.

Q. I am a Distance Student - what services does the Library provide?

The Library will mail books for free with an included return slip to students living outside the Calgary area. Many of our resources are available online. All students can book appointments with their liaison for research and citation support.

Q. How long can I loan out items from the Library?

Most items from our general circulating collection are three week loans for all patrons with four renewals permitted so long as there is not a hold on the item. The loan period varies on other items such as laptops, textbooks, phone chargers, etc.

Q. I'm not a SAIT student or faculty/staff member. Can I use the Library?

We are not able to loan out items or provide access to computers to anyone that is not a current SAIT student/faculty/staff member. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please check back later in the year for potential updates.

Q. I need to withdraw from my program. How can I get the form signed by the Library?

Please visit the desk to get your withdrawal form signed. You can also email your withdrawal form to and we'll get back to you during operating hours.

Q. Can the Library get me this book/article?

Check the Library Search for your item to make sure it's not already in our holdings. If it's not, you can either request items from other libraries or suggest a title to purchase. The Library cannot guarantee access to all items due to availability, publisher restrictions, etc.

Q. Can I buy my textbooks at the Library?

No - the Library does not sell textbooks. You can buy textbooks at the .

The Library aims to obtain copies of all required textbooks at SAIT to make them available for short term loan.  Check our compiled list of textbooks for each semester to see what's available. You can also search the collection for individual textbooks.

Q. Does the Library offer any other support services?
