Q. My books/items are overdue. Will I collect fines?
Items in our general circulating collection will not accumulate fines for students/staff/faculty unless requested by another patron. If this happens, you will receive a recall notice and will have to return the item by the due date or it will start to accumulate fines.
Most other items, including high demand items such as textbooks, laptops, phone chargers, etc. will start to accumulate fines if not returned on time.
Visit our Borrowing Materials policy for more details.
Q. How do I print at the library?
You need to add money to your SAIT eCard to print in the Library. We recommend printing from a library computer.
Check SAIT's Technical Support and Resources page for more details about printing on campus.
Check our Technical Help page for tip sheets on printing.
Q. Can I eat and drink in the library?
In general, food cannot be consumed in the library. Finish your snacks or meals before you arrive. Drinks are permitted within the library but should be in containers with lids to minimize spills. Small, individual snacks for medical need will be allowed.
Q. What should I do if others in the library are noisy, blocking access or causing a disruption?
Library use is not permitted to interfere with others’ ability to study or access library resources. We monitor and resolve as many situations as we can proactively. If you are being disrupted or feel that someone is not making appropriate use of the library, please report this to our Information Desk staff so we can resolve the situation. You can report disruptions discreetly using the Chat with us option on our homepage.
Q. Why isn’t the whole library a quiet study area?
The library's focus is on supporting academic activities, which includes collaborating with others on projects and participating in study groups. These activities on the main floor, and in study rooms, lead to conversational noise within the library. If you're seeking a quieter study space, try the quiet individual study area in our basement, book a study room or use the study booth.
Q. I'm not a SAIT student or faculty/staff member. Can I use the library?
We have resumed borrowing for community members with a The Alberta Library (TAL) card. Due to circumstances outside our control, we no longer accept Alumni Cards. If you are a SAIT alumni, you can pick up a TAL card at any participating library.
Q. How long can I loan out items from the library?
Items from our general circulating collection are 4 week loans. Current SAIT students and staff are eligible for up to three renewals and all other patrons are eligible for one renewal (provided there is no hold on the item). The loan period varies on other items such as laptops, textbooks, phone chargers, etc.
Items may be recalled by another patron after you've had it for 2 weeks. If this happens, you'll receive an automated email from our system advising you of the new return date for the recalled item.
Visit our Policies page for more details.
Q. Can the library get me this book/article?
Check the Library Search for your item to make sure it's not already in our holdings. If it's not, you can either request items from other libraries or suggest a title to purchase. The library cannot guarantee access to all items due to availability, publisher restrictions, etc.
Q. Can I buy my textbooks at the library?
No - the library does not sell textbooks. You can buy textbooks at the SAIT Bookstore.
The library aims to obtain copies of all required textbooks at SAIT to make them available for short term loan. Check our compiled list of textbooks for each semester to see what's available. You can also search the collection for individual textbooks.
Q. Does the library offer any other academic support services?
We recommend checking out our partners in the Lamb Learner Success Centre and in Student Development and Counselling.
Q. I need a Library PIN. How do I get one?
The Library PIN and mySAIT credentials have been discontinued - you can now access library resources by using your Microsoft 365 credentials. If information about using a Library PIN or mySAIT credentials is in a course, please forward details to library@sait.ca or connect with your librarian.
Q. How do I get an eCard?
Your eCard is your digital SAIIT ID card that you can use to checkout materials from the Library. You can get an eCard by following the instructions listed on the SAIT eCard page. The library does not have access to the eCard system and cannot directly troubleshoot any issues with account access.
This page only covers technical support for library resources and accounts. Visit SAIT Technical Support and Resources for support with campus-wide hardware, software, and accounts.
Students can book study rooms and an individual study booth using the links below.
Filming, photography or otherwise recording in the library for academic purposes requires permission at least 3 business days prior to when you want to start working.
