LanSchool is a classroom management software that we use in our centre to monitor and control the computers in both the labs and private rooms (excluding student laptops).
With this software, staff can perform the following actions:
- restrict access to other websites
- grant access to certain websites while restricting access to all other websites
- capture students keystrokes and browsing history
- control computers from the main staff computer located at the main desk
- this is used mainly to input secure passwords or communicate with the student without having to enter the room multiple times (which can create distractions to students writing exams)
How LockDown Browser Works
- Assessments are displayed full-screen and cannot be minimized
- Browser menu and toolbar options are removed, except for Back, Forward, Refresh and Stop
- Prevents access to other applications including messaging, screen-sharing, virtual machines, and remote desktops
- Printing and screen capture functions are disabled
- Copying and pasting anything to or from an assessment is prevented
- Right-click menu options, function keys, keyboard shortcuts and task switching are disabled
- An assessment cannot be exited until the student submits it for grading
- Assessments that are set up for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with other browsers
You may be required to use LockDown Browser with a webcam, which will record you during an online, nonproctored exam. (The webcam feature is sometimes referred to as “Respondus Monitor.”)
