Non-Accommodated Testing Centre offers the following services: External exams, SAIT Make Up Exams, SAIT Supplemental Exams, SAIT Challenge Exams

Challenge Exams

                                                                                         

A Challenge exam is a form of prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR), A student can take to prove their knowledge of the course curriculum. The student may request a challenge examination for a course they are registered in at any time before the midpoint of that course. Please note that procedure AC.3.1.1 Grading and Progression – Credit Courses deadlines apply if the student wishes to drop/withdraw from the course being challenged.

  1. The student contacts Transfer Affairs to request a challenge exam.
  2. Transfer Affairs will confirm the student’s eligibility to take the examination 
  3. If eligibility is met, Transfer Affairs will inquire with the Academic Chair or designate responsible for delivering the course, if a challenge exam exists for that course.
  4. If available, Transfer Affairs will:
    1. inform the student of exam availability.
    2. instruct them to complete the challenge examination request form by providing the link to the form.
    3. notify them of the total challenge examination fee as reflected on the webpage, that must be made prior to taking the exam.
    4. advise the student of AC.3.18.1 policy and procedure and provide the student with the detailed outline of the course the student wishes to challenge (if needed).

  1. Upon receipt of the completed challenge examination request form, Transfer Affairs will:
    1. forward the form to the Academic Chair or designate by email along with the Testing Services Challenge Exam Invigilation form
    2. apply challenge examination fee to the student’s account

  1. Transfer Affairs will inform the student that their request is being processed, that they will receive an email from testing.services@sait.ca with information on how to schedule the examination once Testing Services receives the completed Testing Services Challenge Exam Invigilation form the Academic Chair or designate.
  2. Testing Services will process the request and notify student (cc: transfer.options@sait.ca) to schedule/book and complete the examination (within 5 business days). Book here: Stan Grad Register Blast
  3. The exam is marked and graded by Academic Chair or designate within 10 business days, who transmits the result to Transfer Affairs 
  4. Transfer Affairs will inform the student of the result, and if successful, will record PLAR credit as CR on the student’s record.
  5. If the student is registered in the course which they have successfully challenged, the student is responsible for dropping the course if within the add/drop deadline of term. After the add/drop deadline, Transfer Affairs will drop the course from their registration.
  6. Please note that any outstanding challenge exam fees will be handled by the Student Financial Account team within the Office of the Registrar and will result in a hold on student’s account which will ultimately be sent to collections if left unpaid.
