Library Equipment: Laptops

An overview of equipment available for loan or use within the Library.

Laptops

The Library has a collection of Windows laptops for students and staff to borrow. Laptops are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be pre-booked. Your laptop must be returned before the Library closes on the day borrowed. When you return a laptop, it must stay with us for at least 1 hour before you can borrow it again. See the Borrowing Materials page for lending rules, late fees, liability and more.

These laptops run Windows 10 and come with our common applications package. They all have an embedded webcam. It is not possible to install other software applications.

You can ask for a laptop and accessories at the Information Desk.

Sign-in to Library Laptops

You must sign-in to these laptops with your SAIT network credentials.

  • Username: SAIT ID# without leading zeros (e.g. 987654)
  • Password: SAIT email password

If you get a error at the Windows sign-in saying the domain is unavailable, use a network cable to connect directly to the SAIT network. After the sign-in process completes you should be good to sign-in over Wi-Fi, whether on- or off-campus. Network cables are available at the Information Desk.

If you're unsure about your credentials or have other technical issues, contact the ITS Service Portal.

Accessing Files and Drives

Do not save your files on a borrowed laptop. There are several alternative options for file storage:

  • Go to Office.com and sign in with your SAIT email credentials to access OneDrive and other Microsoft products.
  • Upload to My Files in your Brightspace course (Course Tools > My Files).
  • Save files to a personal storage service, such as Google Drive or Drop Box.
  • Save files to a removable USB drive.

Laptop Accessories

We have several laptop accessories you can also borrow for the day and return to the Library before we close.

You can borrow a:

  • Power supply
  • Mouse
  • Network cable
  • Carry bag

Note that we have limited supplies of some accessories. You can always get a power supply, but other items may not be available when you borrow the laptop.

We have many books and videos to help you get the most out of the software available in the Library. You can find these resources using the Library Search tool on our homepage.

What happened to cameras and VR kits?

Effective Monday, April 29th, 2024 the library will no longer lend cameras and VR kits.

We have decided - after extensive consideration - that the library does not have sufficient resources to appropriately support cameras, VR kits and related equipment. Some equipment will be transferred to the Connector Lab in Thomas Riley, TU103. Contact the Connector Lab to arrange a time to access their space and equipment.
