Library Equipment: Cameras and Laptops

An overview of equipment available for loan or use within the Library.

Removing Cameras and Accessories Collection

Effective Monday, April 29th 2024

We have decided - after extensive consideration - that the library does not have sufficient resources to appropriately support our cameras and related accessories. Starting on April 29th the library will no longer lend these items to our borrowers:

  • DSLR camera kits
  • Camcorder kits
  • Microphone kit
  • Tripods and other accessories

Our camera kits and accessories will be transferred to the Connector Lab in Thomas Riley, TU103. When the library first started lending this sort of equipment, there was not a space like the Connector Lab on campus and so we sought to fulfill a need for access to these devices. However, now that such a space exists, we believe that these items are a better fit for the Lab and can be better supported and maintained there.

Note that it may take a few weeks after the transfer for these devices to again ready for loan through the Connector Lab.

If you have questions or concerns about this change, email library@sait.ca

Laptops

The Library has a collection of Windows laptops for students and staff to borrow. Laptops are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be pre-booked. Your laptop must be returned before the Library closes on the day borrowed. When you return a laptop, it must stay with us for at least 1 hour. See the Borrowing Materials page for lending rules, late fees, liability and more.

These laptops run Windows 10 and come with our common applications package. They all have an embedded webcam. It is not possible to install other software applications.

You can ask for a laptop and accessories at the Information Desk.

Sign-in to Library Laptops

You must sign-in to these laptops with your SAIT network credentials.

  • Username: ACDM\ID# without leading zeros (e.g. ACDM\987654)
  • Password: SAIT email password (your default password is sent to your preferred email inbox - subject 'Your SAIT Student Email Address')

Important: If you want to use the laptop while off campus, you must sign-in with your SAIT network credentials and connect to SAIT Secure WiFi before leaving campus. You will not be able to use the laptop off-campus if you do not complete this process.

If you get a error at the Windows sign-in saying the domain is unavailable, use a network cable to connect directly to the SAIT network. After the sign-in process completes you should be good to sign-in over WiFi, whether on- or off-campus. Network cables are available at the Information Desk.

If you're unsure about your credentials or have other technical issues, contact the ITS Service Portal.

Adobe ID

To access most Adobe Creative Suite software you will need a free Adobe ID connected to your SAIT email address. If you are off-campus you will also need to sign-in into Global Protect VPN (go to the VPN section and skip to step #10).

Accessing Files and Drives

Do not save your files on a borrowed laptop. There are several alternative options for file storage:

  • Go to Office.com and sign in with your SAIT email credentials to access OneDrive and other Microsoft products.
  • Upload to My Files in your Brightspace course (Course Tools > My Files).
  • Save files to a personal storage service, such as Google Drive or Drop Box.
  • Save files to a removable USB drive.

Cameras

The library has 2 Digital SLR and 2 HD Camcorders for students and staff to borrow. Cameras are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be pre-booked. Your camera must be returned before the Library closes on the day borrowed. When you return a camera, it must stay with us for at least 1 hour. See 'Laptops and Cameras' under Borrowing Materials for lending rules.

You can ask for a camera at the Information Desk.

Check Availablity

Note: It may take several minutes for status changes in our system to be reflected on these pages. So, information on availability may not be fully up to date.

Liability for Borrowers

Because these devices are particularly expensive, the replacement costs for lost or damaged laptops and cameras are listed below for your information.

  • Laptops: $1500
  • SLR Camera Kits: $1170
  • Camcorder Kits: $2017

You become responsible for library materials when they are checked-out to you. You may be required to pay for loss, damage or late return of any library materials.
