Open Educational Resources at SAIT: Foundations of OER Certificate

Informational site about OER materials and practices at SAIT

Foundations of Open Educational Resources Program

Open educational resources (OER) are teaching, learning and research resources that have been shown to have a positive impact on student learning and institutional outcomes. Interest in OER has grown at the international, national, and provincial levels as governments and organizations realize the high rate of return on this investment in student learning.

The Foundations of Open Educational Resources program will provide SAIT faculty and staff with the necessary skills to find, adapt, and evaluate these open licensed materials. Through this program, you will develop an appreciation of the benefits of OER and the confidence to incorporate OER into their instructional practices. Upon completion of program, you will earn a certificate on your PeopleNOW profile.

Program Outline

This program is designed to be flexible with hybrid learning that involves completing online learning modules before attending a workshop. During the multi-course curriculum, learners will create a personalized action plan to locate, adapt, or create OER for their courses.

  • The OER Foundations certificate can be earned upon completion of courses 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • The OER Champion certificate can be earned upon completion of all 6 courses.
