LEGO Mindstorms: LEGO Mindstorms EV3

LEGO Mindstorms Collection

The Reg Erhardt Library houses a collection of 16 LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Core sets available to students, faculty, and staff at SAIT. Four Expansion kits, which contain supplementary structural and mechanical pieces as well as extra building instructions and programs, are also available for use.

These kits consist of a programmable P-brick, several sensors, and LEGO pieces which allow for the creation of robotics and engineering projects.

The kits provide a unique and engaging teaching tool relating to computer programming, engineering, robotics, and various other fields. They also provide great group learning and team-building opportunities for classroom and staff groups.

This guide is meant to introduce a select number of activities and learning resources to start users and instructors in their exploration of these kits.

Borrowing the kits

LEGO Mindstorms kits may be signed out for one week.

Workstations located in the Library classroom (MC015), as well as the Library laptops available to borrow for one day, already have the LEGO software installed. The software is also available as a free download for your personal devices.

Class and instructor use of the collection may be arranged by contacting the Library. Please note that, for class use it is recommended that instructors contact their IS department ahead of time to inquire about installation of the programming software on classroom workstations. Software may otherwise be installed on personal devices using the link above.
