COVID-19 Library Service FAQ

I currently have library items out. Can I return them ?

You can return library materials to the Safety Ambassador at the west doors of the Stan Grad building (campus map).

Returns can be made:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

If you have an appointment to visit the library, then you can also return items in the book drop by the Library's south doors (inside the Stan Grad building) or at Information Desk book drop, inside the Library.

We are not charging late fees on most items and but you may be responsible for the replacement cost of long overdue items.

Contact if you have concerns about due dates or returning your materials.

Is the Library open? What are your current hours?

The Library is open but with limited services and access. See Visiting the Library for details. You can also reach us by email and online chat during posted hours.

Are staff available to assist me?

Yes. You can send us an email or use our online chat service. For in-depth research and citation assistance, book a video, voice, or chat appointment with the liaison librarian for your school.

You can also book a 15 minute in-person consultation with staff at our Information Desk. See Visiting the Library for details.

Can I still borrow books (or course textbooks, course reserves, DVDs, laptops, media items, etc.)?

Current students and staff can use our curbside pickup service to borrow materials from our main circulating collection (mostly items with location 'Level-0') and Course Textbooks/Reserves collections. Other collections - such as laptop computers, DVDs and media items - are not currently available.

See the Curbside Pickup services page for details.

Students and staff can also request a scanned copy of articles and book sections. See the Digitization Service page for more information.

Students and staff living outside of Calgary can request items from our circulating collection with our Distance Delivery service.

If you'd like to pick up a book in person - or want to consult with someone about which books best fit your need - book an in-person consultation

Can I access library resources online?

If you are a current student or staff member, online books, videos, journals and other resources via Library Search and our subject guides are also available online. You may be asked to log in to access some resources.

You can also still request articles through interlibrary loan.

What if I am a TAL or Alumni borrower?

Users with TAL, Alumni or other community cards cannot borrow from or visit the Library. Nor can they access online books, articles or other e-resources. We are also not creating or renewing accounts for these users. These restrictions are due to a number of factors, including:

  • Limiting activity on campus and non-essential contacts
  • Focusing our limited on-campus resources on supporting current SAIT students and staff
  • Challenges with verifying borrower identity and contact information when creating or renewing accounts

If you still have materials out from before the pandemic, you can see our standard return process on the Curbside Pickup page. If you aren't able to return materials through this process, or have other concerns, email

Are math and writing tutors still available?

Information on tutoring is available on the Academic Coaching and Tutoring page. SAIT also has partnered with an online tutoring service. Visit Tuber Education for more information. If you are looking for Writing Help, email your assignment/written work to to receive feedback. You can also book a phone or video appointment by calling 403.284.7050
